What is energy medicine, anyway? And what do chakras have to do with it? Energy Medicine is found in cultures around the world. My training in energy medicine treatment involves identifying where the energy (sometimes called Chi or Qi) is stuck and the corresponding chakra that is blocked. Then, releasing that stagnant energy in the chakra through attention and intention. Studies have shown that energy flows to where our attention goes. This work creates an opening for the balanced flow of energy and brings the energy body, physical body and emotional body all back into balance for greater physical health and well being.
Chakras are vortexes of energy and we can learn how to work with our chakras to experience greater wellbeing. These are hubs that align along the spine from the sacrum to the crown of the head. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means "Wheel of Light" and the word has its roots in ancient Hindu religious texts. You can learn how to work with your chakras and can even check in with the "energy centers" as you develop your own relationship with your subtle energy field.
As you work with your chakras you may find new levels of agency developing within yourself. People, places and things you haven't thought about for years may suddenly come to mind-this is part of the detox or release process that can happen as the unconscious comes into the conscious mind. This is all normal. Be gentle with yourself. Try to turn off your inner critic and tune into the awareness that is built into your heart.

Grounding - The Root Chakra
Feel your feet on the ground where you are and begin to tune in to your body-if you are sitting, feel yourself being supported in the chair. Imagine roots coming out of your feet and your root chakra, sinking deep into the earth. Let yourself experience this "tuning in" and breathe in and out, exhaling with a sigh as many times as you need to. Shake your shoulders up and down, maybe rock gently side to side, engaging your spine and you roll your shoulders. Begin to embody your flesh again. Welcome home. Your body missed you. Take another deep breath in and out. Engage with the support and love that is all around us, whether we are aware of it or not. See if you can relax into the ground.
In my studies and training , I have learned that the best way to relax is to sense into our feet, to consciously relax any areas of tension in our body and to breathe. Find a way to relax that works for you.
Through my healing journey I have discovered that I used to breathe a shallow breath, probably because I was stressed and ungrounded. As I work with grounding to the earth, deepening my breath and learning to be present in my body, I am finding greater peace and sense of well being.
I hope you will too.

What to expect when you work remotely with an energy medicine practitioner:
You will need a quiet place where you can sit or lie down undisturbed, near the computer or laptop. It's nice to have a pillow and blanket handy, as well as a glass of water. Headphones or earbuds make for better sound on the video call. You may want to have a candle available that you can use (safely, of course) and incense or sage, to make it a more rich sensory experience.
A safe, sacred space will be created to begin. A guided imagery meditation as well as breathing prompts will be provided by the practitioner. The session will run 60-90 minutes.
